NEWLETTER MAY 2016

Principal’s Corner

Well the SATs have been completed and we now await the results. This year we see the end of levels and the introduction of scaled scores. 100 is the score that an average Year 6 pupil should attain. A figure above 100 is above the average. All will be explained on the pupils’ reports that will be produced in July.
We have just received some great news, last years pupils achieved in writing 5% higher than the Local Authority average, in reading 7% higher and in Mathematics 9% higher. We must be doing something right. All keep up the good work.
Well this week we are starting to go out and about with 5&6 visiting The Leen Farm & Croft Castle, 3&4 working in the village and the infants visiting Stokesay castle and Acton Scott Farm Museum. Part of our ethos as a FREE school is to use our local environment in our learning. A great learning experience was gained by all. After half term Year 6 will be going to Birmingham Symphony Hall to experience a KS2 concert.

Sport

Swimming
The infants will be swimming until the 10th June when the Juniors take over until the end of term. Congratulations go to Daniella who achieved her green badge.

Friends of St Mary’s

You may have noticed our new blue noticeboard? Please keep an eye on notices for you there! We also still need a Chairperson—possible jobshare? A good way of learning new skills & getting involved (speak to Mary, Maddy or Allie for more info). Our next meeting is Wed. 22nd June at 7.30pm in the pub. Our next event is an ‘old-fashioned school fete’ on Sat. 9th July @ 2pm in the school field. A list of things to donate or help with stalls will go up after half-term. THANKS
