NEWSLETTER JUNE 2016

Principal’s Corner
Our School Council held a painting / photography competition on a wildlife theme. There was a large entry, very well done all who took part!
We are still getting out and about Year 6 visited the Birmingham Symphony Hall and listened to a concert with the title 400 years of Shakespeare. Years 3 & 4 went up the Dilwyn church tower (scary!!) and then visited Hereford Cathedral and The Old Tudor House. The infants visited Yarpole and Croft church-es and learnt about how and why churches were built in a certain way. The infants really enjoyed the buggy rides at Croft.
Although the SATs have ended pupils are still studying hard in class. Years 5&6 had a referendum debate and vote. The result was remain 78% and 22% leave. Much was learnt and on the referendum day pupils visited the Polling Station and saw democracy in action. Years 3&4 are studying local history and the infants are learning all about electricity. Finally many thanks to Friends for organising the school fete. It would be great if the weather is kind and we are well supported. Please spread the word.

Sport
The Juniors are all working for their next badges and will swim to the end of term. On 27th June an inter-house rounders competition took place and on the 11th July, weather permitting, it will be sports day. All are welcome to sports day and the Spack-man cup will be presented at the end of the afternoon by John himself.

Friends of St Mary’s

We will have plenty of activities, refreshments and stalls to keep the children entertained including children’s races, meet the miniature donkeys and pygmy goat kids, lucky dip, and the highlight for the children will I am sure be “soak the teacher”. We still need some help running the lucky dip, raffle and bottle stall, as well as cakes; please sign up on the notice board in school if you can spare an hour. Don’t forget it’s Wear What You Like Day on Wednesday 6 July in return for a jar of something for infants, a bottle of something for years 3 and 4 and a raffle prize for years 5 and 6. All proceeds go to the children.
