NEWSLETTER SEPTEMBER 2019

Principal’s Corner

The new term saw Merlin, Jana, Erin, Maddison, Holly, Casey, Cothele, Callum, Drew and Jack move on to High School. We wish them all well on their educational journey and thank them for their contribution to our little school. I hope their memories are good. We have also 12 new pupils in Reception who seem to have settled in well and are certainly enjoying their first lunchtime picnic.
Congratulations go to Cothele who won the Shield for Outstanding Progress and Achievement and to Ivy who won the House Point Cup. Sadly Ivy has moved but we welcome Finley, Aaron, Lucas and Sara.
The school is not just about studying and SATs but it is about stimulating interest and fun in learning. Music, Art and Science all feature strongly and on Friday afternoons Forest School, Swimming, Cookery and DT will continue to be rotated.
In July the Upper Juniors experienced and enjoyed a trip to the Black Country Museum experiencing a coalmine, canal trip and also a school lesson. The Infants also went to the Black Country Museum and learnt much about Victorian Life & Times. The Infants also went to Goodrich Castle and visited the Butterfly Farm. It’s an Education for Life at St Mary’s. ‘ Small school with a big curriculum’ OFSTED April 2017.
You may have heard that schools are receiving extra funding in the media. I am afraid none has as yet been forth coming. I hope these are not empty promises prior to an election.
Finally try to avoid parking on the school house corner and down to the zigzag lines. The road is narrow and accidents have occurred. We have an arrangement with the Crown so you can park there or by the village triangle. Many thanks

Sport

The Sports Day was both a great spectacle and very hard fought. Beech won the Spackman Cup for the first time ever. Many thanks go to all the staff who supervised and allowed the events to run smoothly. Mike’s Sports Club continued to be a great success last year and will continue to the end of term. An Infants sports club will also take place on Thursdays.
This term the Infants will go swimming until half term then the Juniors will swim until the 20th December. Congratulations go to Aeife, Scarlotte & Kyle who achieved their Red badges. Lulu and William their Green and Verity her Yellow.
